Cultural Protocols

Keeping Alice Springs Safe

We ask that you respect the following protocols as a sign of respect for our people, our culture and our country.

The Todd River is very important to the Native Title Holders. By camping in our river, littering, burning and destroying trees, our culture is weakened and our hearts saddened. Our culture stays strong through our children. Everything we have; people, country and the things our community owns, we need to protect for the future.

Cultural Protocols

ï In Aboriginal law it is required that people who wish to dance their stories on other peoples land should seek permission. To seek permission from the recognised custodians of Alice Springs, please contact, Lhere Artepe Aboriginal Corporation.

ï Meetings, conventions and groups of visitors, especially dignitaries should acknowledge the Native Title Holders of Alice Springs at their events. Lhere Artepe can provide ëWelcome to Countryí ceremonies.

Lhere Artepe Aboriginal Corporation
Mparntwe, Antulye and Irlpme Estate Groups

Lhere Artepe Aboriginal Corporation was formed in 2002 following the Ferderal Court decision that Native Title was recognised to exist within the Municipality of Alice Springs.

A Native Title Holder is determined to be those people who are descended from the original Central Arrernte inhabitants of the Mparntwe, Antulye and Irlpme estate groups and who are recognised by the relevant traditional owners and custodians as having rights and interests in relation to the estate groups.

Respect this land and protect it by not littering, camping in the river or destroying our trees.

When you visit Alice Springs, donít humbug people for money and donít drink too much alcohol and fight, this hurts everyone in the community. By respecting these rules you are respecting the land and you are helping keep our community and our culture safe for our children.
