Like all new relationships, things take time. Time to build trust, time to listen and time to develop mutual understanding. Leonie has recently spent time in Alice Springs to meet with Lhere Artepe Aboriginal Corporation, one of our new partners. Anglicare NT (PSS) will work alongside Lhere Artepe and Desert Knowledge, to implement an Aboriginal-led, place-based justice reinvestment initiative in Alice Springs aimed at addressing the drivers to contact with the criminal justice system, through community engagement and justice reinvestment.
The Commonwealth Government’ s landmark Justice Reinvestment funding is significant and PSS is honoured to be part of establishing the backbone organisation.
Lhere Artepe Aboriginal Corporation is proud to host the first Anwerne-Kenhe Alterreke Atnyentyeke Keep Our Ways Strong (KOWS) Interschool Event on Tuesday 5 August 2025 at Yirara College. The event will bring together students from Yirara College, Yipirinya School, and St Joseph’s Catholic Flexible School for a day of culture, sport, leadership, and community connection. In the lead-up to the event, students have been working on their entries for the KOWS Logo Design Competition – creating artwork that represents the message “Keep Our Ways Strong.” The winning design will be unveiled on the day, with prizes generously supported by local organisations, including Alice Springs Town Council and Yeperenye Shopping Centre. This event builds on the success of our recent KOWS NAIDOC celebration and continues our commitment to hearing from young people, strengthening cultural identity, and supporting safe and strong communities.
