Justice Reinvestment Program Consultation

In October of 2022, the Attorney-General and the Minister for Indigenous Australians made public a First Nations Justice program. The initiative consisted of investing $81.5 million into as many as 30 justice reinvestment initiatives that are community-led across Australia, and forming an independent national justice reinvestment unit, as suggested by the Australian Law Reform Commission.

This funding package is the most significant ever provided by the Commonwealth for justice reinvestment. Read the media release here

The Justice Reinvestment Program consultation page is live on the Attorney-General Department website. For a summary of the program, a paper to discuss, and a chance to express your opinion via a submission, please refer to this page. Submissions will close on  10 April 2023.

If you have  any questions about the consultation process or in making a submission, please contact justicereinvestment@uts.edu.au or justicereinvestment@ag.gov.au.

Lhere Artepe Aboriginal Corporation is proud to host the first Anwerne-Kenhe Alterreke Atnyentyeke Keep Our Ways Strong (KOWS) Interschool Event on Tuesday 5 August 2025 at Yirara College. The event will bring together students from Yirara College, Yipirinya School, and St Joseph’s Catholic Flexible School for a day of culture, sport, leadership, and community connection. In the lead-up to the event, students have been working on their entries for the KOWS Logo Design Competition – creating artwork that represents the message “Keep Our Ways Strong.” The winning design will be unveiled on the day, with prizes generously supported by local organisations, including Alice Springs Town Council and Yeperenye Shopping Centre. This event builds on the success of our recent KOWS NAIDOC celebration and continues our commitment to hearing from young people, strengthening cultural identity, and supporting safe and strong communities.
