Programs
Aligned with LAAC’s Strategic Directions, our programs reflect key priorities that support community well-being, cultural preservation, employment, and social justice.
LAAC’s programs align with its strategic plan goals to:
- Empower and upskill community members.
- Promote cultural preservation and environmental protection.
- Strengthen community leadership through culturally responsive initiatives.
- Ensure sustainable employment opportunities and income generation.
Cultural Services
LAAC’s Cultural Services uphold Central Arrernte cultural heritage, reinforcing LAAC’s role as a cultural authority, ensuring the continuation of traditions and values.
This includes Welcome to Country ceremonies, smoking ceremonies, cultural dancing, cross-cultural training, Proof of Aboriginality services for Central Arrernte descendants and more.
Indigenous Land Use Agreements (ILUA)
LAAC manages Indigenous Land Use Agreements (ILUAs) as part of its Native Title obligations. These agreements are legally binding arrangements between Native Title groups and other parties (such as government bodies, developers, or businesses) that regulate land use and access.
Native Title
Since its establishment, LAAC has proudly upheld its role as the recognised Native Title Body Corporate for the Mparntwe, Irlpme, and Antulye Estate Groups. This responsibility involves protecting and managing Native Title rights and interests on behalf of Traditional Owners.
Traditional Owners Foot Patrol Program
The Traditional Owners Foot Patrol Program is a culturally led community safety initiative in Mparntwe (Alice Springs) and surrounding areas. Managed by Lhere Artepe Aboriginal Corporation (LAAC) and funded by the National Indigenous Australians Agency (NIAA), this program places respected Traditional Owners and Aboriginal leaders on the ground—walking with community, restoring calm, and preventing harm. Our presence reflects cultural strength, leadership, and local knowledge.
Assertive Outreach Program
The Assertive Outreach Program offers targeted support to vulnerable community members, ensuring they are connected to safer sleeping places and other essential services. This initiative reflects LAAC’s commitment to addressing homelessness, social disadvantage, reducing harm, and promoting safer, healthier communities.
Ranger Development Program
The Ranger Development Program is an innovative model designed to empower Traditional Owners in managing sacred sites and engaging in environmental stewardship. By collaborating with key partners such as ILSC, Alice Springs Town Council, DKA, and Batchelor Institute, this program strengthens economic opportunities while reinforcing cultural leadership.
Peacemaking and Mediation
The Peacemaking and Mediation Program reflects LAAC’s commitment to integrating culturally appropriate justice solutions. Working alongside Tangentyere Council and the Community Justice Centre, this initiative promotes community-led conflict resolution grounded in Arrernte traditions.
